At the end of 2014, DPP set out new technical specifications for audio delivery that includes adherence to the EBU 128 spec.
But what does this mean?
Quite frankly, to most people, not a lot! It means the old BBC PPM scale is gone and a whole new world of audience friendly measurements are in.
A number of our recent projects have benefited from the extra dynamic this new metering system affords us and we have succeeded in providing mixes close to transmission using the newer file delivery methods, in conjunction with the edit facility.
Fortunately, we've been mixing to these new specs for a while as well as many others. So if your delivery requires LUFS, LKFS, Leq(m), Leq(a) or anything else you can think of - we've got it covered.
This popular quiz show for BBC 4 has been going from strength to strength since it started seven series ago. It has certainly established itself as one of the toughest quizzes on TV and the "Connecting Wall" round now appears weekly in the pages of the Radio Times.
Also popular with fans of the show is the "Missing Vowels" round, where the two teams have a final chance to score vital points against the clock and against each other.
The teams have been so well matched in the last series that the buzzer round has been hotly contested and the interval between buzzer presses has got smaller and smaller.
The picture below shows an example - in Pro Tools were are able to measure the gap between the sounds of the teams button hits. In this example there are only 928 samples between them!
That's equivalent to 19 milliseconds!
Fortunately, the studio system correctly triggered the right sound and the fastest finger was first.

Only Connect, about to film series 11, is currently enjoying it's first run after the move from BBC4 to BBC2. Of course it's hugely popular - the third highest rated show on BBC2. Long may it continue!

At the European Respiratory Society (ERS) Congress, held at the Amsterdam RAI, Onscreen Productions produced a 3D surround sound flight simulator for an exhibiting pharmaceutical company.
The ride delivered a mix of entertainment, fun and serious information packed into a 6 minute journey through miniaturisation and injection into the human circulatory system.
Cranc supplied 5.1 final mixes and M&E tracks for the simulator, which included effects for the visual elements and also non-visual elements to enhance the experience of the ride.
